There was a line / There was a formula / Sharp as a knife
Facts cut a hole in us

~ Cross-eyed and Painless by Talking Heads
Our Father of Air is a just-the-facts-ma'am sort of guy. He isn't interested in the side notes and detours with the ramblings of others. She just wants the bottom line. Direct questions require direct responses. That simple. If this is you today, please remember to temper this fact-finding mission with a little compassion. Folks may not be in the same head space and will require a little patience. A deep breath while listening will help. Don't roll your eyes or make your breathing sound like a strangled sigh either ~ telegraphing the impatience will have a person shutting down thus defeating the purpose of said fact-finding mission.

If this is not you, but someone you're dealing with, know that it will be necessary to respond in as direct a manner as possible. Don't dance around the issue, don't tip-toe on egg shells, just pull the trigger and say what needs to be said. To do otherwise will incur the ire of this particular personality. Your succinct candor will be greatly appreciated.

To my eye, the brightest spot in the Polestar Oracle is where the crystal point and empty nut shell rest in the West. The shell makes me think of a coracle, the little round boat used in swift waters for fishing. There is a sense of navigating some choppy emotions (West being that place of Water) which require some means of flotation, but nothing large. Nothing that would keep you from feeling the water or getting hung up on the rocks below. So a coracle. A tiny boat that'll get you there without getting snagged or bogged down. And where is there? Clarity. The crystal sitting in this place feels like a direction has been determined, it just needs to be followed.

Eve's was the crime of curiosity. As the saying goes: it killed
the pussy. One bad apple spoiled the whole shot.
But be sure it was no apple.

~ Seventh Heaven by Patti Smith
What if we gave ourselves over to surrender? What if we opened up, cracked, split open and invited pain and despair to take us in? In this image of the 10 of Air, the woman is arching back, opening her heart, surrendering to the feathered mandala; pointed quills pricking the skin. In ye olde RWS deck, the man didn't see it coming and has suffered a brutal (ego) death. Which is how it goes when sticking to a failing plan because of pride. What will the neighbors think? Well, for today, f*ck the neighbors. What do you need to give up? What needs to be released so that you can unburden your heart? It's the hanging on that causes the suffering. Time to let go, kitten. Better to do so mindfully and avoid that swords-in-the-back thing.

And the pokey-stabby continues with that sharp bamboo leaf in the East. Bamboo is a grass. It is associated with good luck, divination, and longevity. And, in some places, an invasive species (it is grass, after all). In order to keep bamboo in check, you have to be diligent and cut the running rhizomes as well as the stalks. Bamboo is strong and flexible. With East being that place of Airy mental processes, it might be necessary to adopt these bamboo-like qualities. Be pernicious in your growth while integrating strength and flexibility. Know there will be necessary pruning in the process to avoid being overgrown, overwhelmed. And, often, pruning actually stimulates healthy growth.

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

~ Time by Pink Floyd
On a good day, our Son of Earth is a cautious, slow-moving fellow. He is careful with his resources, surveys his plans before moving forward, and manages his time well. She cultivates steady relationships, avoids flightiness and ungrounded principles, and digs into her work. Well. Our Son of Earth is positively mired into place, stuck in not going anywhere, never mind slowly. And we're not quite sure what he's waiting for. A nudge from the Universe? More money? More time? The perfect circumstances? As much as our Son likes to have all the i's dotted and t's crossed, sometimes, one has to bust a move, to use some ancient vernacular. In short, DO something. That doesn't include a nap. If hitting the artist's block, sketch random shit. Got writer's block? Write about it. Waiting for that check to come in? Well, the mail doesn't come on Sundays; tend to things that can be done while waiting. It is easy to become paralyzed by anxiety. Do the work of simply moving forward in as uncomplicated a manner as possible under present circumstances. Then maybe take a nap.

I'm drawn to two things in the Polestar Oracle: the black and white feather in the East and the hole-y shell in the South. In that place of new beginnings, fresh ideas, and good thoughts, the feather appears burned. Like Icarus' wings flying too close to the sun. Perhaps some warnings went unheeded in the pursuit of some idea with crash and burn being the results. Or the fresh ideas aren't so fresh, so you don't move on any idea at all. Remember your unique abilities and perspectives ~ even when building the better mouse trap. Seagulls drop crustaceans onto rocks in order to eat them. Cracking that protection, making those soft parts vulnerable. Make sure you're in good company today if feeling cracked open and vulnerable. One fine trait of our Son of Earth is discernment. South is that place of Fire, will, and community. Don't waste your time with people who don't care.

I tend to play them all / He spoke with confidence
Another kind of strange / To shift in loneliness

~ Nine by Patti Smith
You're on your own today, kitten. The 3 of Air cuts to the heart of things and separates you from the maddening crowd. It could be you've had enough of a certain situation and it's time to step away. The heart may be heavy at first having invested so much time and energy, but that will shift in time. Or, maybe, someone or something has had enough of you and chooses to move on. Either way, the heart is burdened with a searing, painful loneliness. Sounds dire, doesn't it? I have to tell you, this is not one of my favorite cards to draw. Give me The Tower or Death any day, but the 3 of Air is keenly visceral. (So is the 10 of Air, for that matter, but save it for another day, right?) It's only a Minor Arcana card for today, however, so perspective, please.

Know that you'll be dealing with something on your own, as mentioned. You can't fret about taking sides when being on your side is what you'll need. Do what you can to preserve your mental and emotional state in this weird time. There is nothing wrong with sequestering yourself from the melee and madness until it passes. Big self care is key today. Cry if you need to. Smile if you want.

Using the body as the map, the healing flourite wand points to the feet with the forked twig and clear flourite octahedron. A good indication to stay present and ground into circumstances as they are, sit with it all despite the necessary distance. The time alone will give you the opportunity to figure which feelings are yours and which are those put upon you by others. The flourite octahedron might offer some healing, bypassing the mental blocks and opening the heart, stimulating empathy and compassion for one's self and others. Be gentle with yourself today. Be well.

Big wheel keep on turning / Proud Mary keep on burning
Rolling, rolling, rolling on the river

~ Proud Mary by John C. Fogerty
What's great about wheels, any wheel, is that they turn. Certainly, a wheel won't be turning if stationary, but that's fine. A little push and we're on the move again. When The Wheel of Fortune is leaning left, that little push might need to be engaged. It could also be that some situation is moving too slowly (as far as you're concerned ~ Universal Time plays a heavy hand). Perhaps you'd like to see some completion, closure, in order to move on, but you're stuck in some kind of retrograde stasis. What is important to know about The Wheel is it can't be stopped. Sure, it'll turn slowly, might even go retro, but The Wheel of Fortune moves its great spokes, spinning the heavens, spinning the earth, and events in your life. It may not look like anything is getting done or that you're moving at all, but despite the barely perceptible incremental shift there is movement. And that counts, by golly.

Another barely perceptible object sits in the North; a bit of bark with lichen, blended into the stony background. The fruits of your labor might not be readily seen today. It could be a long time coming yet, requiring more work and, certainly, more time. There is still activity going on, events have been put into motion, it's just not able to be seen or realized. All you can do is trust that things are moving along and keep on with the day. Nose to the grindstone, my friend.

buying for free

Every night before I go to sleep / Find a ticket, win a lottery
Every night before I rest my head / See those dollar bills go
swirling 'round my bed

~ Free Money by Patti Smith
The thing about abundance is it's fluid. It flows in, it flows out. Most times that flow can be controlled, like a faucet. If you need water, turn the tap on and fill up. Need to contain the flow? Turn it off and save water. If you've ever been to the ocean, you might notice folks surfing. You might also notice they aren't chasing the waves, but waiting for them. Substitute "water" for "money" and you could get an idea of how money works. That's not to say one will benefit by sitting around waiting for money to drop into existence. Some sort of exchange needs to occur: services for hire, goods to sell, honest work for the money. When the Ace of Earth is leaning right, it indicates an action of chasing ocean waves. Which, if you've been watching the surfers, would be a fruitless endeavor fraught with frustration and exhaustion. It could be a time of some financial desperation that has you racing after the cash and that is when it's hardest to engage the faith. Continue working, do what needs to be done to take care of those basic needs, but don't wear yourself out chasing after abundance. Spend a little time under the sun and have some fun too. Sunshine is free, by the way.

There is a bit of green with the tuft of moss in the East. Moss is a comfortable plant, lovely on bare feet and delightful to sit upon. It is a luxurious looking carpet in the woods with those healing greens covering the bare spots, stones, and trees. Resting into the mossy comfort of ease and growth could be a lovely new way of managing the flow of abundance. Find gratitude in what you have now and express a little gratitude for what's coming in. Learn to catch the wave, not chase it.

You can lose sight of it all / And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small

~ True Colors by Cyndi Lauper
Our Son of Fire has had his thunder stolen. He is feeling unseen, unrecognized for his good work. Her creativity has been squelched by doubts and reduced self-worth. When feeling bogged down by the Inner Critic or maybe a few on the outside, the shine dulls a little. The day progresses, but our Son of Fire seems to be on automatic pilot. Now is the time to pull yourself up by the boot straps and declare your worth. For you are unique with unique perspectives and abilities. Be who you are and you can't go wrong.

I want to live, I want to give
I've been a miner for a heart of gold

~ Heart of Gold by Neil Young
Our right-leaning Daughter of Earth is trying too hard. With everything. She may be over extending herself. He might be eager to rush ahead too soon. There's a certain need to please here, but not everyone can be pleased. And that's rather a conundrum for our dear Daughter today. As an earthy type, this Daughter's attention is on carefully tending the physical ~ home, money, the body temple. Running around pleasing others drains her own coffers. He becomes irritable and annoyed, but with a smile, as he burns out. No one is going to give you what you've already got: that heart of gold. The thing here is not to squander it on those that take advantage.

Slow down. Stay present. Tend to Self; not exclusively, but inclusively.

The wheel in the Polestar Oracle is lost in the stony gray background. This might be a day when your work simply goes unnoticed. Rather than expect any great show of appreciation or accolades, be content in knowing the work has been done by your capable hands. Or heart.

O, Death!

No, they whisper. You own nothing.
You were a visitor, time after time climbing the hill,
planting the flag, proclaiming

~ The Moment by Margaret Atwood
Death is patient. Death does not need to hunt you down. Death will not give in to some wild chase. Death waits. And when an ending is approached (for certainly, all things move toward Death), it is better to let go. Why hold on to something that needs to die? While it all seems dire, Death is really a very good sign that some great change is underway. Change that requires necessary endings. Most often, the changes can be good: quitting an unhealthy habit, letting an abusive relationship die, moving to a new and better home. It means saying Goodbye to what you have known and lived to begin a new life. And yes, there are changes that don't feel so liberating: loss of a loved one, the splitting apart of dear friends and family, large-scale tragedies. These things become indelibly etched on our souls, creating scars and tattoos we carry throughout the rest of our lives. They are bumped into from time to time as a reminder to die again on another level so that we may live, completely and fully.

And so it might be a day of finally letting a thing die so that you may live. Let it be so.

I am drawn to the two Amazonite stones in the South and West. South is that crucible of Fire, the full light of day at noon perhaps indicating a revelation, all can be seen in this moment. While West holds the flow of emotions depending on the container. These waters can be as large and as deep as the ocean or they can be contained in cup. Neither is good nor bad, just how they are held. Which depends on you and how deep you want to go. Amazonite is a good emotional healer and enhances one's integrity. Both are helpful actions during this time of deathing.

I am thinking of the way the intangible air passed at
speed round a shaped wing easily holds our weight.

~ Working Together by David Whyte
The 8 of Fire is coming in hot. Great amounts of energy, fiery will, and quite possibly speedy electronic messages are flying in, seemingly from all directions. And we can't know what it is because the nature of a message is upon the opening of it. All we know is it's landed in the Inbox and probably needs to be addressed. Immediately. Folks are likely to be a little short tempered as well adding to the immediacy of things. While the messages themselves might not be clear, there is one thing that can be counted on: the ability to handle situations arising surrounding them.

In the North, I am noticing a blue shard caught in a split of wood. It's as if a tree has caught a bit of sky. It might be a good idea to manifest a bit of heaven on earth to manage these speedy energies. Stopping to take a breather couldn't hurt.

Of our elaborate plans, the end / Of everything that stands,
the end / No safety or surprise, the end

~ The End by The Doors
The 5 of Water in The Everyday Tarot has one more hopeful cup upright than the usual image. That the card is leaning right gives more weight to this feeling of hope is rather helpful in light of any losses. This might be a day that has one feeling one's emotions a little more keenly. There is a sense of pulling down, feeling drained, sadness. Sadness is not a "bad" emotion, by the way. Karla McLaren addresses this issue of working with Sadness in a cognizant and sacred manner. Rather than give a poor synopsis here, it would be better to click that link and read her words. I could not explain it any better. What matters is not avoiding the emotion. Embrace sadness, move with it and through it, knowing you will not die. The thing that needs to be released will. Nothing less is called for today.

There is a trout lily in the South. The entire nature wheel is resting in a fetid, boggy place. Though there is much decay in these wild places, there is also a phenomenal wealth of life. Which is encouraging information while mired in the muck. Maybe relations with others aren't flowing so smoothly today ~ they're sitting in this mucky, yet necessary, realm. Trout lily is good for healing life's bumps and bruises. It might be a good idea to spend a moment with a little trout lily energy, even if it's looking at a picture of that sunny yellow flower as reminder of Beauty in the world.

Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun

~ Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles
O frabjous day! Callooh Callay! The Sun has finally come out to play! And not a moment too soon. If life has been feeling dull and lackluster, The Sun is a sure cure for those blues. Aside from a healthy allotment of Vitamin D, the actual sun is vital for good health. One's circadian rhythm depends on it. Since it's going to be a sun-shiny day, get yourself outdoors under those happy rays. Even if it's raining during the day, the sun is still up. As long as there isn't some kind of disastrous storm warning in your area, standing in a puddle with wellies and an umbrella can be an enjoyable experience. Child like. The Sun likes to play and humans need to play or we all become dull boys (sorry, guys ~ an old saying). So remove those foot prisons and run barefoot in the grass or stomp in some puddles. In short: Have fun!

Using a body map theme, I see the bright oyster shell up top at the head. It might indicate a feeling of lightness, brightness, beamishness in mind and thought. Perhaps some clarity in a situation will present itself and lift a heavy head. It may be a bright spot on an otherwise dreary day. Let it shine.

I've got no roots, but my home was never on the ground
~ No Roots by Alice Merton
The young woman among the echinacea is barely perceptible. If the 9 of Earth were upright, it might suggest an integration of physical and spiritual realms. A contented state of mind in beautiful surroundings, embodied, enjoying personal success. We are not upright today, however. With the 9 of Earth in reverse one is like a butterfly flitting from one flower to another, barely landing. There is little or no enjoyment because one isn't in place long enough to feel such things. Everything and everyone is glossed over in a sort of mania to get to the next destination. And if issues get too deep (because the Earth element requires depth), then the desire to exit is that much greater. There will never be a sense of harmony, completion, rootedness if constantly on the move. Sometimes, you just have to be where you are.

The flourite healing wand is pointing downward toward the "feet" in the Polestar Oracle. Which echoes the necessary sentiments of grounding. The forked twig also resembles a torso with legs or feet suggesting some sort of healthy movement to feel embodied. It's odd to suggest stillness and movement in the same space, but getting into one's body requires some physical movement ~ walking in the woods, yoga, dancing, standing barefoot on some piece of earth. Let your toes be the roots that sustain connection to self and the Earth.

You slaughter when you feast / You disrespect the beast
Make our beds and lie there, take your share

~ Waste Not Want Not by The Pretenders
Our Son of Earth is usually a sensible, industrious, resourceful fellow. He will slow down, take time to plan, and then methodically get to work. She will carefully consider her resources and limitations before embarking on any project, especially if other people are involved. When our Son of Earth is leaning left, those qualities languish. The process becomes a seat-of-the-pants, haphazard activity wasting time and energy.

So take a hint: slow down, plan ahead, and don't ignore or waste resources.

Resting in the East is a length of snakeskin. Snake is noted for its ability to shed and grow giving that symbolic tone of releasing old habits, beliefs, and behaviors. Letting a thing die so that new life can begin. Perhaps there is some end marking a new beginning here in the East (that place of such activities). Embracing the sensual might also be indicated here as well. Tune in to the environment, let it speak to you, no matter where you are. Taste the air, feel the ground in your new skin. Use this combination of cognizant slow-down and new sensuality to navigate your day. Don't waste these brilliant gifts.

The rest of us watch from beyond the fence
as the woman moves with her jagged stride
into her pain as if into a slow race.

~ The Rest by Margaret Atwood

The 9 of Air in an exaggerated state has me making up words. Stressure: a combination of stress and pressure. When the 9 of Air feels so acute, so intense, one wants to jump out of one's skin and there seems to be no escape from circumstances. Panic sets in often paralyzing all movement (emotional, mental, physical), thus further creating a sense of entrapment and despair. Phantasms and grim illusions grip the mind bringing up deep primal fears causing unrest, worry, tears . . . stressure.

This is not an easy ride for anyone to endure, but perspective, please. It is a card for one day and might not be so dire. There may be a nagging worry you've had on the back burner for awhile. Well, it might have moved to the foreground now requiring action or attention. And that may be all you need to do. Because, more than anything, the 9 of Air simply requires action. Miring yourself in despair keeps you there. Move. Literally. Even a walk might offer some different perspectives.

A moon snail shell and a citrine point rest neatly at our feet (using body imagery). Citrine is best known as an energizing and empowering crystal. The moon snail shell clearly indicates some form of protection and being "at home" where we are. It seems the best empowered action to take when dealing with stressure is to be present. Which also means sitting with the discomfort. Slowing down, to a snail's pace (hey, it's still movement though), might help with processing the situation in a better frame of mind and less anxiety.

I don't want to work / I want to bang on the drum all day
~ Bang the Drum All Day by Todd Rundgren
Unless your vocation is percussion related, not much is going to get done today. The 8 of Earth is feeling a bit lazy and is very interested in cutting corners and getting to the couch early. Which, I suppose, requires skill of one kind or another. Possibly knowing those quiet, out-of-the-way places to sneak in a nap while at work. If that can't be managed, it will be a day of not putting quality work into what's being done. There is no interest in honing craft or learning a new skill. One is only interested in doing the minimum.

And maybe it'll be fine to skate a day like this. If you're lucky, the impact will be minimal as well. But that only works if you've been doing the work up until today. Slacking is a skill that can only be easily achieved if all other parts are already in place. If a process can hum along on its own without complete and utter failure for one day, then fine, head for the couch (or secret napping place). If not, then prepare yourself for an exponential amount of work tomorrow. The number 8 is rather karmic in it's repercussions (pun intended). What you don't do today will be waiting for you tomorrow. It's just more work. So plan accordingly.

The circled vine and Herkimer diamond in the South feels like a certain comfort ~ especially the circled vine. It is an enclosed space, contained. Resting in that place of fiery comfort with good company, the circle might allow you to move easily in safe space. The Herkimer diamond might help with attuning you to others in this space as well as offering an extra boost of energy if taking the day off isn't an option. It might be better to work with the circle of friends in order complete a task so don't go it alone.

en garde

Tell those girls with rifles for minds / That their jokes don't
make me laugh / They only make me feel like dying
In an unguarded moment

~ Unguarded Moment by The Church
The 9 of Fire leaning back has a few things to say about, well, keeping your guard up. See, there is a precious commodity humans need: energy. Not electrical or fossil fuels or even solar, but personal energy. The Fire element is related to one's creative will and energetic levels. Again, today's society either robs or squelches those energies. We are sapped by minutiae and nonsense. We are constantly drawing lines in the sand attempting to maintain our personal boundaries ~ which are transgressed to no end. And it may be easier to check out for the day, step away, turn your back, unplug, withdraw. The hazards of doing so will cost you more energy down the road as you scramble to rebuild those personal gains later. Why let all that go because you're feeling spent today?

There may be some vulnerabilities lurking about as well. Find a good solid friend you can confide in. The vulnerability craze that's been happening on social media might not be the best place to share such delicate insights. Having a trusted someone witness the unfolding of those tender places makes the exchange a little more sacred. There's no need to open up to the whole world, just yourself. Protect your space.

The black and white turkey feather resting in the East might indicate being on the edge of burnout. Though this is a turkey feather, there is a myth about Crow getting Fire from the Creator. Crow sacrificed colorful plumage and a fine singing voice so The People would survive winter. Such sacrifices are worthy, but don't lose peace of mind getting things done. And you don't need to fly so close to the sun. Ride the thermals while you keep any eye out for those energy robbers.

And, therefore,let the immeasureable come.
Let the unknowable touch the buckle of my spine.
Let the wind turn in trees and the mystery hidden in dirt
swing through the air.

~ Little Summer Poem Touching the Subject of Faith
by Mary Oliver
The Hanged One offers some new perspectives. This image comes up when it's time to have a little faith in the process. And that is not an easy thing to do in our uber-controlling, fast-paced society. We like to be in charge. We like to micromanage. The Universe doesn't work that way. It will show us what we need to know in the moment. The rest we simply have to trust. That's it and that's all.

The change in perspective also gives one time to pause and reflect awhile before taking action. Perhaps there are a plethora of views and ideas flooding in and time is needed to let the best one evolve into something beautiful. And so, like the butterfly in a chrysalis, one hangs in this protected space until ready to unfurl those new wings and fly.

The Polestar Oracle has a nice timeline axis occurring from East to West. And what I like here is how from the East, where there are many points on the quartz cluster (like having many ideas), there is a wooden bridge leading to the single-pointed quartz in the West. It seems the perfect metaphor for moving from the cluster of thoughts, ideas, dreams to the best outcome that feels right. The bridge is that healthy time moving between random concept to manifestation.

Dancing days are here again / As the summer evenings grow
~ Dancing Days by Led Zepplin
With the 4 of Fire, dancing days are indeed here again. Yes, in our neck of the woods the days are getting longer, the humans are emerging from their comfy caves into the light of long days and warm nights. That, by golly, is fair cause for celebration. The 4 of Fire is the steady fire. It is stable energy, thanks to the number 4. The flames will neither engulf nor sputter, giving a sense of comfort and community. And it's no fun celebrating alone so spend time with kith and kin in marking the occasion. If it seems there's no real cause to celebrate, then consider getting out of bed with a new day as a good reason. The 4 of Fire offers a sense of fresh new beginnings even when enjoying the accomplishments of the moment.

The little stack in the North draws my eye. North is, of course, that place of earthy manifestation and sweet groundedness. The collection of stone and seed gives a sense of community, gathering, togetherness. It's been built up carefully considering placement and balance. And these are good things to remember in the midst of celebration. Don't let the the joy turn to mania and chaos. Create a space of celebration and then close it properly. All good things come to an end. The great thing is they're fine memories for later.

It's time to make a mountain out of a molehill / So can I
have a volunteer / There's no more time for crying over
spilled milk / Now it's time for crying in your beer

~ Dare to Be Stupid by Weird Al Yankovic
Let me cut to the chase: it's going to be a stupid day. With the Ace of Air in reverse, things just don't make sense. Nothing goes the way it's planned. Chaos and rampant disorganization reign and wreak havoc on all senses. Decisions are not clear cut, at all. Instead of a katana, you have a butter knife. And you know what they say about bringing a knife to a gun fight. It just doesn't go well.

What to do? Well, kitten, it'll be a day of pulling your wits together to the very best of your abilities. It means removing as many distractions as possible from your scope of awareness in order to get things done. (Sadly, that might mean not reading these words, but there it is.) Put down the phone ~ especially if you're driving. Stay on task if doing the computer work; no wandering over to Facebook or trolling Imgur. (But now I've linked it so you have to visit.) Because today is also going to be dead boring. Which sometimes has one meandering into back alleys looking for trouble.

The little yellow ball in the East reminds me of the sun. And play. This might suggest keeping things light in light of the seriousness of things. As mentioned, keep your wits together, but be playful with your ideas. Let your speech and words carry a tone not so serious. It's not the end of the world if things don't go well. The snafu's may actually work in your favor. So roll with the punches and know you'll still come up standing. Even if a little wobbly at first.

I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream / Of warm impermanence

~ Changes by David Bowie
The Tower leaning right will soundly eject you out of any comfortable rut today. It's just for today, though. Which is nice. And you probably need this realization, need this lightening strike, to get moving. It's not a day for complacency. There is work to do. Best get to it. The Tower waits for no one.

You may find yourself dealing with these certain realizations and initiate the necessary changes yourself. Really, a kinder, gentler shift than letting a situation crumble and crash out of control before it's too late. Stay awake, stay aware, and you might head a thing off at the pass. In the nick of time. Better to respond than react.

The Polestar Oracle has a lovely green branch of Mountain Laurel sitting in the North. It would suggest the need to cultivate perseverance in manifesting anything today. The means of getting to an end result may shift and turn, but as long as you have your eyes on the prize, you'll probably get there just fine. And perhaps a bit wiser.

The Star is the one you wish on, the guiding light in a dark sky ~ a sky filled with the Milky Way and planets and asteroids and the occasional satellite. When The Star comes up, it generally means a sense of well-being, serenity, connection with the cosmos. Because life is big. Bigger than Earth. Bigger than the Solar System. The tiny slings and arrows we contend with in the Everyday are nothing compared to the Universe and its utter vastness. So seeing The Star makes even a dull day seem brighter, deeper, more magical. Let yourself enjoy this serenity as the heavens shine down.

The bright quartz cluster in the North looks rather like a star. North is that place of elemental Earth, manifestation, physical being. And so it may, indeed, be a good day for wishes granted. If nothing else, perhaps a smile for the simple joy in life. That's a fine wish for anyone.

Been dreaming of this since a child
I'm on top of the world

~ On Top of the World by Imagine Dragons
The World offers us a lovely view coming out from underneath. It may have been awhile since one has felt on top of anything let alone the world, but here we are. Maybe there has been some digging around and looking down, getting lost in the minutiae of existence, forgetting to look up, out, and around. The World coming up today reminds us to take in that lovely view and enjoy the work that has been done. Let there be some sense of completion and closure, even if there are a few loose ends (because there are always loose ends). In fact, whatever is left undone might actually be the threads of new beginnings. The World holds the alpha and omega in one moment. So don't fret over what's not finished ~ it's just a new start with some fresh energy.

The World Egg is a big deal in many cultures and represents the beginning of, well, Everything (basically ~ read the various permutations that follow in Wikipedia). Finding an egg resting in the South might indicate the beginning of some spark of creativity ~ your Fire, your will, renewed and aflame with creative desire. That it's neatly packaged in the protective egg until ready to hatch might also suggest a certain need for protection. Let your creative egg nest in the safe haven of people you trust. One wrong word or intention may undo all your good work.

In the water where I center my emotion
All the world can pass me by

~ Zephyr by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Our Son of Earth is chillin' and not grillin'. That is, he's taking life extra slow today. She's planning a quiet and easy day doing only what gives her pleasure. Got no time to chill, you say? Well, better make time. Body, mind, and spirit could very well be in need of rest and some easy enjoyment. Something that gets you outside awhile. Streaming TV and the comfy couch of recumbent repose will only go so far in terms of relaxation. We don't want to sleep our lives away, just slow down for today. Nature gets you away from the technology (except the smart phone, I know ~ gotta take pictures) and your feet on the ground. A thing our Son of Earth likes. Feet on the ground with a clear head.

The whole wheel in the Polestar Oracle feels comforting and grounding. Each element in place has a simple elegance with soft tones suggesting a deliciously contained space to allow only what one wants to let in. The simplicity is a comfort. Run with it. Or rather, don't.

blue skies

Sun is shinin' in the sky / There ain't a cloud in sight
~ Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra
Wow! What a treat! The 10 of Water smiles down on us mere mortals today. Such a break from the card pulls days earlier. And let it be so for you. Let that alchemy of as above so below do its magical magic of feeling good. You'll be in good company to boot. There isn't really much more that can be said about the 10 of Water. Simply enjoy your day. It's been well-earned and is certainly deserved.

Though the nature wheel sits on snowy ice, the shiny coin in the South draws my eye, offering a bit of warmth. Treasures might be found spending time in community today ~ family, good friends, fellow alchemists that support your work as you support theirs. It's a good day for the cross-pollination of creative sparks and ideas. The bit of juniper sitting here insures the protection of your processes as they are distilled in the alembic of community.

Oh, don't give us none of your aggravation / We had it with
your discipline / Oh, Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in

~ Saturday Night's Alright by Elton John
Oh, it's a word alright! And with the 5 of Fire in this exaggerated state, pugnacity is likely to be the perfect one for a combative day. Nothing that should draw blood or incur a mild maiming, but enough to be irritating. This might be the sort of day that has you fighting one thing or another. You could be fighting time and so rushing about wildly trying to catch up. There might be some wild debate brewing and you're in the middle of it trying to maintain some sense of order. It could also simply be a really energetic day that's running off the rails with a certain mania.

Channel that energy, kitten. Better to use that fine fiery fuel instead of letting it blast the nearest and dearest. Find a means of grounding and staying centered and all will get through this unscathed.

The Guinea fowl feather running East to West has my attention this morning. Guinea fowl speaks to a need for black-and-white thinking and getting out of the gray areas in life. There is also some thread of needing to break out of the usual routine. The movement of the arch from East to West feels like a leap; moving from thinking to feeling, heady mind-stuff to the crucible of the heart. Perhaps you will feel less harried and combative if you make this energetic leap today.

In the water the sun passes through in the air that is
around you / It's everywhere / You just have to care

~ Love Is the Truth by Jack White
Our Son of Air is a logical, direct, incisive sort of being. He doesn't put up with much bullshit. She rarely takes No for an answer ~ especially in the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. Our Son of Air has an idea about feelings and the pulling of heart strings, but doesn't actually swim in those waters too deeply. They tend to bog him or her down and muddy the intellect. Clarity and compartmentalizing are the usual actions with our Son of Air. That's all well and good in experimental laboratories, but not so good for human relations. Sometimes, he or she forgets we're not all lab rats waiting for the appropriate stimulus.

Today might be a good day to remember a few human traits ~ kindness, compassion, caring, love. Again, it's not that our Son of Air doesn't know of these things, it's just not easy to put those traits in a pigeonhole to be reached for at some vague convenience. It means stopping the personal mental chatter long enough to look outside one's self, to other people, for simple human understanding. And that's not always a clear line. It means trusting in the truth of love. Our Son of Air may have to get some toes wet.

The whole of the Polestar Oracle is comprised of clear quartz suggesting a certain clarity in all directions where even the shadows cast some light. Certainly, be clear within yourself. By all means, be honest and direct. But remember to be kind. Logic isn't always everything.

Oh can't you see / You got the best of me
You're bringin' on the heartbreak / Bringin' on the heartache

~ Bringin' On the Heartbreak by Def Leppard
Yes, it's April Fool's Day here in America, but today's card isn't a fun one. We can laugh about it later. The 3 of Air is leaning hard to the right bringing on, as the song suggests, some heartbreak. But it's only for today and probably easily surmountable. On the whole, the 3 of Air speaks of hurt feelings, separation, loneliness, and betrayal. These are not wonderful, but consider this: maybe, just maybe, it's the one push necessary for personal growth. Humans are creatures of comfort and routine, sometimes making us blind to a need for some changes. And then, seemingly out of nowhere, we're hit with certain realizations. Realizations we were either oblivious to or simply ignored (because, y'know, comfort). Having a heart broken open through hard circumstances isn't always the worst thing in the world. It does feel like that when in the middle of it, but, oh, the rewards later!

The other helpful thing to remember is this card is an Air elemental and is concerned with mental machinations. It could be you're creating your own heartbreak obsessing over someone or something. I'd tell you to stop it and get back to work or something, but I understand obsession isn't so easily managed. Maybe move those thoughts to the back burner for today and, yes, distract yourself with some healthy endeavors. Away from the internet and social media where airing your feelings can be a hotbed of pain and despair.

The flourite wand's point is lost in the East suggesting that healing perhaps isn't complete. On the whole, flourite calms an over-active mind and repairs a tired aura which could be good qualities to engage on this stressful day. Especially as it's resting in the East, that place of airy thoughts, words, and breath. Remember to breathe. Literally take breathers throughout the day to give your head an airing out. And let each breath open your heart.
