I swear the air softened and warmed as she moved,
the blue sky smiling, none too soon,
with the small shy mouth of a new moon.

~ Demeter by Carol Ann Duffy
Today marks the Spring Equinox in the Northern hemisphere. Technically, it isn't the beginning of Spring, but the middle of it. Spring began back on Groundhog Day aka Imbolc, Candlemas, Brigid. Half day half night means we're half way to summer. But I digress.

It is fitting, it is right, to see our Mother of Earth show her warm smiling face today. Everyone makes a big deal about Persephone's return and it is important, however, we are here with Demeter during those six cold months. We live through the long cold nights waiting for Her to laugh again. And so, today, She smiles.

Our Mother of Earth often personifies the well-grounded person (though the Tarot's court cards are gender-specific, their energies are not). This person maintains a safe, warm, loving home for family and friends. There is always food in the pantry and dinner is rarely late, requiring everyone to be at the table together. Our Mother of Earth is solid ground, comfort, ease, constancy, reliability. How might you embody a few of these qualities today?

Let yourself be grounded. Let yourself be present. From these two states all manner of gifts pour forth. You may find you're able to deal with whatever comes your way today simply because you're the rock. You may be the calm, steady voice of reason in a whirling dervish of words and activity. And when you've got everyone assembled and settled in, make sure they have a good dinner.
