the day

I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear . . .
Singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs

~ I Hear America Singing, Walt Whitman
Our Father of Earth is feeling yesterday's hike up the mountain. So he is tending to himself. Which is hard work for him because he usually attends to others first. Today, he will sit this one out though as he listens to the songs of others. While supervising.

Taking care of self is fair practice for taking care of others. I've an idea if you don't have yourself well grounded, you're not likely to be any good to anyone else. Perfection in this is not the goal ~ solid footing is enough. Using yesterday's death march hike as an example, The Man would ensure his footing was secure before reaching a hand out to me. There was some slipping and sliding still, but it was minimal thanks to a moment of checking a secure stance.

There may still be work to be done today, despite a need for rest. It's fairly routine ~ chop wood, carry water. Pay attention though. And if you can't pay attention, minimize the To Do list. Better to give full attention to one or two items than scatter it over too many. Don't forget to take that Sunday nap.
