new year's eve fiber orgy

The dining table laden with fibery goodness.
What do you get when you've got three women and a whole lot of fiber? A veritable Fiber Fest! Kim, Bethe and I brought different things to the table, literally, for inspection and experimentation while the split pea soup boiled (had to use that ham hock from the xmas ham dinner, natch!). Little drink was had as we were all giddy from the flying bits of fiber filling the New Year's Eve night air.

We played with Bethe's awesome drum carder. Kim tried out her electric spindle (all put together by her father, by gum). And I tagged along with the drop spindle working some of my own stuff and trying out the drum carder experiments.

Kim and the electric spindle.

Bethe at the drum carder.

Men folk of the house, like Bill, were at a loss in this milieu.

The youths didn't care.

Bethe and Kim experimenting with some wool
and mohair strands.

A little sampling of that experiment.
Bethe and I even gave Navajo Plying a try!
What an absolutely adorable process!
